A step towards a clean environment

Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, witnesses the signing of a contract for the management and operation of a non-hazardous waste recycling and treatment plant in Mahalla al-Kubra, aiming to improve the environment and reduce pollution.

Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, Major General Hisham Amna, Minister of Local Development, and Dr. Tarek Rahmi, Governor of Gharbia Governorate, witness the signing of a contract for the management and operation of a non-hazardous waste recycling and treatment plant in Mahalla al-Kubra and the provision of treatment, recycling and transfer services for rejected materials to the Sadat sanitary landfill.

The contract was signed by Ms. Najwa Al-Asheri, Secretary-General of Gharbia Governorate, and Ms. Amal Al-Bayh, Deputy Chairperson of the company for legal affairs. The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Mona Shahab, Coordinator of the Air Pollution Management Project, and Counselor Amr Hatata, Legal Advisor to the Governor of Gharbia Governorate, Engineer Ali Abdel Sattar, Assistant Secretary-General of the Governorate, and from the company, Carlos Ballero, Deputy Chairman of the company for operations, Zainab Hijazi, Head of Corporate Communications and Sustainability Sector, Marwa Youssef, Head of Procurement Sector, Osama Anis, Head of Environment and Sustainability Sector, and Marwa Al-Rifai, Procurement Manager.

Dr. Yasmine Fouad affirmed the Ministry's keenness to continue its efforts in cooperation with the concerned authorities to implement the directives of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to activate the new system for managing municipal solid waste. This comes in light of the importance attached by the state to improving environmental conditions and reducing pollution rates, as well as the positive repercussions on the sustainable development plan and Egypt's Vision 2030. She pointed to the importance of these projects, which aim to establish a national waste management industry, provide new job opportunities, and support the private sector and its involvement in the waste management system in order to achieve the highest sustainable environmental and economic return, which contributes to the implementation of integrated municipal solid waste management.

Major General Hisham Amna explained that the past period witnessed the offering of the management and operation of municipal solid waste recycling plants and providing the opportunity for national private sector companies to use the latest technology in this field and the administrative and technical expertise of the private sector to preserve the equipment in the waste plants in the governorates and thus contribute to the preservation of the investments that the state has pumped in over the past years and ensure the optimal use of equipment and recycling lines and the necessary maintenance
