The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development recently announced the inclusion of the "Be an Ambassador" initiative for sustainable development on the "Initiatives to Accelerate the Achievement of Sustainable Development Goals" platform by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA). This achievement came through coordination between the ministry's Sustainable Development Unit, the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development, and the Assistant Minister for Sustainable Development Affairs.
Dr Hala El-Said, the Minister of Planning and Economic Development, emphasized the state's great interest in Egyptian youth and their central role in Egypt's Vision 2030 development process. The government is committed to investing in young people and preparing them for leadership positions. The inclusion of the "Be an Ambassador" initiative on the UN platform signifies a significant success and highlights the ministry's dedication to educating young people about the opportunities and challenges involved in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and Egypt's Vision 2030.
The "Be an Ambassador" initiative aims to enhance the national capabilities of young people aged 18 to 35 in the field of sustainable development. It offers a series of training courses in collaboration with various stakeholders, covering topics such as development patterns, environmental thought, sustainable development concepts, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, green economy, circular economy, and the roles of different institutions and community groups in reaching the goals.
Dr Sherifa Sherif, the Executive Director of the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development, highlighted that the "Be an Ambassador" initiative was launched in 2020 to promote sustainable development thinking and culture among young people. The first batch of around 700 graduates represented all governorates of Egypt. Some of them are currently undergoing training as part of the "Climate Ambassadors" initiative in preparation for Egypt's hosting of the COP 27 climate conference in November. The second batch of the "Be an Ambassador" initiative started in mid-July and will continue until the end of September. Additionally, a specialized batch for media professionals is being prepared, with plans to target other categories in the future.
