Egyptian and Canadian Ministers to Co-Chair Climate Finance Negotiations Ahead of COP28
The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat announced that Dr. Yasmin Fouad, Egypt’s Minister of the Environment, and Mr. Stephen Guilbeault, Canada’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change, have been appointed to co-chair negotiations on climate finance and implementation mechanisms (including technology transfer and capacity building) for the upcoming COP28 climate conference.
Dr. Fouad expressed her appreciation for the efforts of the UAE in preparing for COP28 and conveyed her optimism for a successful conference. She emphasized that these negotiations are part of a larger global effort, running alongside discussions led by other environment and climate ministers worldwide.
This joint leadership highlights the commitment of Egypt and Canada to facilitating effective climate finance solutions and advancing the goals of the COP28 conference.
