Launching of the National Jury for "Youth for Development" Initiative
Cairo, Egypt – The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, in collaboration with the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development and the Supreme Council of Universities, has officially launched the National Arbitration Committee for the 2022/2023 edition of the Youth for Development initiative.
This government-backed program aims to empower young minds by integrating their innovative ideas into Egypt’s public policy and development strategies. The committee’s two-day session brought together experts to evaluate a wide range of policy papers and development projects submitted by students from leading Egyptian universities.
Dr. Mohamed Alaa, Coordinator of the initiative and Head of the Human Rights Unit at the Ministry, stressed the government’s commitment to youth participation. “We value the voices of young Egyptians. Their ideas can lead to real solutions for the country’s economic, social, and environmental challenges,” he stated.
He praised the students’ teamwork, research efforts, and originality, noting that the initiative provides capacity-building workshops and training programs to prepare youth for active roles in governance and development.
On the first day, the committee reviewed 11 policy papers addressing diverse national issues:
Governance:
Mansoura University proposed mechanisms for regulating essential goods.
Cairo University tackled the digital services gap between government offerings and public demand.
Suez Canal University suggested strategies for utilizing vacant housing.
Egyptian Family Development:
Assiut University examined the impact of cyberspace on family values.
Galala University offered a policy to resolve unpaid fines.
Healthcare Reform:
Kafr el Sheikh University focused on preventing doctor migration abroad.
Helwan University outlined strategies to reform Egypt’s healthcare system.
Education Enhancement:
Alexandria University proposed future skills training for teachers.
Port Said University submitted two papers on empowering students with disabilities and virtual learning for Egyptians abroad.
Mansoura University introduced AI-based education for students with special needs.
On the second day, 10 development projects were presented, with themes spanning:
Healthcare:
The British University in Egypt showcased a health-focused initiative.
Environmental Development:
Alexandria, Beni Suef, Cairo, and Egyptian-Japanese University of Science and Technology submitted projects promoting sustainability and environmental awareness.
Women’s Empowerment:
Port Said University proposed programs to uplift and empower women.
Educational Reform:
Kafr el Sheikh University presented an initiative aimed at modernizing Egypt’s education system.
The launch of the National Jury underscores the Egyptian government’s dedication to youth empowerment, sustainable development, and inclusive policy innovation. By connecting academia with public policy, the Youth for Development initiative is laying the foundation for a new generation of leaders ready to contribute to Egypt’s Vision 2030.
