In a significant step toward strengthening specialized healthcare services, the Bahariya Oasis witnessed the inauguration of the Hematology Unit at Bahariya Oasis Hospital. The event was attended by Dr. Sabry Shaker, Head of Bahariya Center; Dr. Ghada Ali, Regional Director of New Egypt; Dr. Randa Abdelaziz, Hospital Director; deputy heads of the center; local leaders and community representatives; and Dr. Nabil Abdel Bari, Director of Idrak Foundation for Blood Patients.
The opening marks a practical step toward ending years of hardship faced by blood disorder patients in the area by providing specialized medical services close to their homes.
The head of the center confirmed that the establishment and تجهيز of the unit resulted from genuine community cooperation, with a total cost of approximately EGP 800,000. The funding covered renovation and preparation works, medical equipment, furnishings, and hospital beds, supported by New Egypt Foundation and contributions from local residents.
In a special statement during the inauguration, Dr. Ghada Ali emphasized that opening the unit represents a long-awaited humanitarian step, noting that the foundation views the project as a long-term commitment aimed at providing patients in Bahariya with the same level of specialized care available in major cities.
She added that the next phase will focus on supporting the unit with specialized hematology and vascular physicians, in addition to completing any remaining medical needs to ensure comprehensive treatment services. She stressed that this will not be the last support provided to the community.
One of Dr. Ghada Ali’s remarks:
“They have nicknamed me the daughter of Bahariya, and this will not be the last support.”
Dr. Ali also affirmed that the foundation will monitor the unit’s medical and technical performance to ensure sustainability and continuous development, stressing that health equity is a fundamental right for every citizen.
For his part, Mr. Mohamed El-Dawy stated that the people of Bahariya deserve the best, and what has been achieved is the result of collective cooperation and prioritizing patients’ interests above all else. He noted that this project is the least that can be done for residents who endured years of travel and high treatment costs.
He added that community participation played a key role in accelerating the project’s implementation, with continued public support and follow-up to meet the unit’s future needs.
The inauguration represents the culmination of effective cooperation between executive authorities and civil society, supported by community leaders, notably Dr. Mona Tantawy, who played a pivotal role in supporting health initiatives and serving patients with blood disorders.
The opening of the Hematology Unit marks the beginning of a new phase of specialized medical care in Bahariya Oasis, helping ease the health, financial, and psychological burdens on patients and their families while improving access to safe treatment close to home.
